Make your own cola
Someone at wikiHow reversed engineered cola. I’m not surprised by this quote but it is still shocking to see it in print, “when you make cola, you basically end up filling a glass with sugar and then adding just enough water and ancillary ingredients to get it to dissolve.” Via boingboing. One correction though, most soft drinks, pastry and confections are sweetened with high fructose corn syrup and not sugar. High fructose corn syrup is considered to be a major contributing factor to the American obesity epidemic and to other health issues.
Update: Another coke formula.
5 big job hunting mistakes made by new grads
Click for CNNMoney.com mistakes article. The short version is, (1) helicopter parents, (2) myspace misjudgments, (3) failure to network, (4) forgetting to say a simple “thank you,” and (5) bad voice-mail greetings. To this I would add, (6) cringe-worthy email addresses, eg., iluvweed@emailaddress.com.

Tutortrac library feature gets thumbs up
For several semester we’ve had a ton of CD’s, DVD’s, VHS tapes, books and other minutia piling up in our center. Despite all our efforts it was a tough sell getting students to use them for independent study. Part of the reason for the resistance is that we required students to use the media within the center so as to minimize loss and damage. Since archiving these resources in Tutortrac’s library we’ve had a small but steady stream of students borrowing items. We no longer worry about loss and damage since there is an electronic record of each transaction. Except for the upfront archiving our library is now pretty much of a turnkey operation. Very useful feature.
